The Golden Age of Space Exploration
These incredible photos document the glory days of US manned flight. The collection of 4500 images, from a European collection, is soon to be auctioned off in Vienna for nearly $1 million. Which gives us a perfect opportunity to stop and gawk at them. From top to bottom: a photo from the Apollo 17 mission, 1972; astronaut Ed White on a spacewalk, 1965; Alan Shepard on the moon; and Shepard suiting up for the Mercury-Redstone 3 mission, 1961.
