Anonymous asked: Just because someone's a creationist doesn't mean that they are not intelligent or interested in science. I have a degree in Biology and was ridiculed my entire career for holding Christian, creationist beliefs. For me, science affirms my beliefs. I've seen life begin under a microscope and other amazing things, and I've no doubt it was a miracle. I believe that evolution is a mechanism created by God. Don't make assumptions about people, and read The Language of God by Dr. Francis S. Collins.
Reading back over my post last night, I realized that I was a bit unclear, and that may have led to offense. Please let me explain.
In context, my post was a response by a young-earth creationist (YEC) criticism of evolution. My policy on this blog is to avoid discussing religion, but I have also promised myself not to water down the science I write about to avoid pissing someone off. I never said that creationists are unintelligent or uninterested, but the truth is that there are no reputable academic labs performing creationist research. Fringe academics, many not even credentialed in biology, rely on writing essays instead of digging up positive evidence for YEC.
I’m not one of those people who think that there is an inherent conflict between science and religion, and I think there are valid ways of believing in both evolution and Christianity. In context, I think it was pretty clear that I was responding to a specific flavor of creationism, but if some of my readers felt wrongly attacked, then I apologize.
