If you want to avoid a tornado, plan your picnic for the weekends
That’s because you’re 20% less likely to encounter a tornado on the weekends, and tornadoes are 20% more likely than average to hit during mid-week. The same pattern shows for hail. In fact, there are a host of studies which show that weather phenomena - including rainfall, lightning, and storm height - undergo weekly cycles. To explain the hail pattern, scientists believe the presence of aeorsol particles in the air cause more, small water droplets to form during the week, while a relative lack of particulate on the weekend allows for hail to form. Aerosol particles may also be behind cycles of tornadoes, since larger rain drops can encourage the supercell weather conditions required for twisters. Overall, the findings show that humans may have a much more dramatic effect on weather than we realize.
