Which sense is dominant - sight or hearing?
Illusions, to me, represent something very powerful. They are a way of exposing the glitches and bugs inherent in the human brain. The illusion above - called the McGurk Effect - is a particularly cool one. It attempts to answer the question, which sense is dominant - sight or hearing?
The question seems like an odd one to ask, as you’d think one would be able to separate both senses and reason out the phenomenon you’re experiencing. The video proves that you can’t. The signals coming from your eyes overpower and affect what you think the signals are coming from your ears. Even when your brain knows it’s being tricked, it can’t parse out the truth unless you close your eyes.
Be sure to watch the video and experience the McGurk Effect for yourself.
